Chinese Antique Furniture -- Huabiao style coat rack/stand/hanger

Huabiao (華表) in Chinese is the white marble columns sculpted with tentwisting dragons and auspicious clouds. These columns had been used as traditional ornaments to decorate important buildings in old China, a symbolic charm of power and wealth.

This picture shows the top part of a coat stand. This coat stand is a hand made art piece yet a practical piece of furniture. The post of the stand was carved from a whole piece of rosewood. The design was inspired by the Chinese symbolic ornament -- HUABIAO (to know more about Huabiao, see the page next to the blog). At the very top, it's a sculpture of a "dancing dragon". There are in total six hookers, each hooker was engraved with a dragon head. The scaled dragon body tangled with clouds pattern constitutes the main post of the coat-hanger.
